Kuwait Marks Independence, Liberation Anniversaries Amid Record Financial Surpluses Kuwait celebrated on Wednesday the 65th independence anniversary (National Day) and the 35th anniversary of Liberation Day, marking the country’s liberation from the Iraqi invasion of Aug. 2, 1990. Liberation was achieved on Feb. 26, 1991.
